Super Bowl Food- Crockpot Chicken Potato Corn Chowder

Super Bowl Food- Crockpot Chicken Potato Corn Chowder
This by far is one of the yummiest crockpot soups/chowders I've made! I found this recipe on Two Healthy Kitchens and made a few tweaks of my own.
This is a hearty yummy soup!

The Style Sisters Super Bowl Food- Crockpot chowder
The recipe says to throw everything into the crockpot and to use bacon bits but I sautéed 4 slices of bacon and half of the frozen onions to get that yummy bacon onion flavor.
I also used fresh parsley and some fresh thyme.

There is no cream or cheese in this soup and yet it is so creamy and rich!
Crock-Pot Creamy Chicken Corn Chowder
Yield: About 10½ cups
  • 3 cups skim milk I used 1% milk
  • 1 16-ounce bag frozen corn kernels
  • 2 cups frozen diced onions
  • 2 cups frozen shredded hash brown potatoes (sometimes labeled as country style)
  • 2 cans (14¾ ounces each) cream-style corn
  • 1 can (about 14 ounces) organic cream of mushroom soup (I used Campbell's regular cream of mushroom)
  • ¼ cup real bacon bits (not Bac-Os) I used 4 slices of bacon sautéed with half of the frozen onions
  • 1 tablespoon dried parsley flakes (I used fresh parsley chopped)
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon garlic salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme
  • 1 pound chicken breast ( I used frozen)
  • shredded cheese to top if desired
  1. Combine all ingredients except chicken breasts and bacon and half of frozen onions in your slow cooker, stirring to mix thoroughly and to break up any clumps of vegetables.
  2. Saute 4 slices of bacon and half of frozen onions.
  3. Add chicken breasts to mixture, pushing them to the bottom of the slow cooker.
  4. Cook on low (6-8 hours), or on high (5 hours).
  5. Just before serving, use two forks to shred chicken. Or, remove chicken from slow cooker onto a plate or cutting board and cut it into small cubes, and then return chicken to soup in slow cooker.
  6. Serve soup sprinkled with cheese or parsley, if desired. Can be served in hollowed-out, whole-grain dinner rolls as bread bowls.

Roast in the over for 30-35 mintues until they are fork tender and a little golden brown. I like my veggies to have a little bit of a no like soggy vegetables.

Healthy Super Bowl Football Food

Over the years we have tried to make Super Bowl food in fun and healthy ways so I thought I would share a few of them with you.

Pineapple football fruit platter
Just by carving the pineapple in a football shape and adding slices of strawberries for the laces makes it look kind of like football. Plus we added lots of other fruits all around the base.

or how about a football veggie tray? Using the colorful vegetables you can create a football shape and snap peas for the laces. Using your creativity makes it fun!

Last year my daughter made this quacamole and bean dip and used sour cream to pipe out the yard lines and names of the teams!

Pheasant Breasts with Pomegranate Sauce

These turned out amazing!!!
My daughters boyfriends went hunting and brought us back some pheasant... I had never cooked pheasant before but let me tell you how delicious these are!!Pheasant Breasts with Pomegranate Sauce Cooking with The Style Sisters
I looked around for some recipe ideas because I was unfamiliar with Pheasant breasts and I found a recipe for pheasant popper appetizer and decided to come up with a similar idea. Most of these recipes use Jalapeno peppers but I chose to use a green pepper.

4 Pheasant breasts cleaned and ready
4 strips bacon
4 Tbsp cream cheese
1 green or red pepper
salt and pepper
Pomegranate jam or jelly
Olive oil

These were really simple to make and quick to cook too!
Preheat oven to 375 degrees

1. I placed about a tablespoon of cream cheese in the center of each breast topped with a slice or two of the peppers, sprinkled salt and pepper on each breast.

2. Roll up each breast with bacon and secure with tooth pick

3. Add olive oil to black cast iron pan..(I have found this pan browns really nice) Cook over medium heat until browned on all sides about 4-6 minutes turning to make sure each side is browned.

4. While breasts are cooking heat up some Pomegranate jelly in another pan or microwave until melted. My cute neighbor made this at Christmas and gave us some..soooo delicious!!

5. Pour melted jelly over the breasts to coat them and then pop the frying pan into the oven at 375 degrees for just about 7 or 8 minutes to finish cooking.

These pheasant breasts are pretty small and an adult could probably eat two but we each had one and ohhh were they good!!
I served kind of a rice pilaf and mandarin orange carrots with this.
Recipes for those will be coming up on the blog!

Have you ever cooked pheasant breasts?

The Tastiest Tried and True Orange Roll Recipe

We have been making these Orange rolls in our homes for years! This is our go to recipe every time. The rolls come out perfect, light and fluffy with amazing buttery Orange flavor! Perfect for the holidays or any time!

Orange roll recipe
Tip- When I put the dough into the muffin pan I push up the centers a bit so when they rise they look almost like a popover.
Orange roll recipe
Tip- once they are out of the oven I lift them out and turn them on their sides in the muffin tins so they can start to cool but stay warm and not over bake.
Orange roll recipe

Here is the takes a little bit of time but so worth it and you make the dough the night before or even a few hours ahead of time!

Refrigerator rolls (PLAIN)

Ingredients for rolls

1 pkg dry yeast
¼ c. lukewarm water
1 1/2 cubes butter melted
2 tsp. salt
½ c. sugar
1 ½ cups warm water
2 eggs

Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water to proof it (bubbly)

Melt butter in microwave Pour warm water over butter, add salt and sugar
Add proofed yeast, Add 2 ½ cups flour and mix well.
Add beaten eggs and remaining flour.

Beat well and cover with a dish towel and let rise to twice the size.

Dough will be sticky.

(If making the dough the night before) Cover and put in refrigerator.

If you refrigerated your dough....TWO and HALF HOURS before baking, roll out dough and form into rolls (if making plain ones or look below for Orange roll recipe) put on lightly greased pans, cover with dish towels and let rise until doubled in bulk.

Bake 400 15 to 20 minutes. Makes 3 to 4 dozen rolls

1 recipe of refrigerator rolls
1/3 cup melted butter
Grated orange rind of one orange

Melt butter, add sugar and rind. Mix well. Roll out half of dough at a time. Roll into rectangle spread with orange butter mixture. Roll up jelly roll style and slice into 1" thick slices. Place in well greased muffin tins (kind of push up center of roll from underneath as you place in muffin tin). Let rise hour or two depending on how hot kitchen is. Bake 400 15 to 20 min.

Divide dough into 3 sections. Roll into circle, cut into quarters, then cut into 3 triangles. Roll like a crescent start with wide end first. Dip whole roll into melted butter. Let rise until doubled in size. Bake in 350 oven for 10 min.
